Stalking Awareness Day 2013 – know the law – use the law

Today is National Stalking Awareness Day and I have been invited along to BBC Radio Lancashire with my old university pal Gary Rycroft to discuss what this means.

The aim is obviously to raise awareness around the issue of stalking and this year in particular around the change in the law which came Into to effect in November 2012. There is now a specific offence of stalking and offenders could face imprisonment from 6 months to 5 years. Stalking is often trivialised and joked about however it often leads to violence and sometimes murder and deserves to be taken much more seriously than it currently is. It is hoped that the change in the law and the publicity around events such as today will lead to more victims coming forward, more police prosecutions and ultimately lives saved.
